One dark, summer night I looked out from the lodge's upper deck across Cherry Lake. What I saw made me question my senses. There were countless stars in the black, night sky and as many more reflecting from Cherry Lake's mirror surface. I desired to see more of this magic so I made my way down to the dock and launched a canoe. As I sat motionless in the center of the lake, each star was clearly visible in the Lake's surface as well, as if I was wrapped in a blanket of fireflies. Were I to dive into the water, it would be like leaping into the sky. This is where I come to learn. This is where I come to think. This is Hiram College.

Northwoods is so far north that darkness often waits until 11 pm.
